So, are you guys huge Beatles fans?
That is one of the questions that we have already been asked countless times. Like enough times that we really should have considered keeping a tally.
We had totally prepared ourselves for it though.
You see, pretty much everyone we meet has been curious about how we came up with the name McCartney, so I thought I'd letcha all in on how her little name came to be.
After all, Ben and I have never met, nor even heard of anyone with McCartney as a first name (nor has anyone that we've come across) and it's not in any baby name book that have looked through, so I consider it a pretty valid question.
Here's the story....
When I was sixteen I got the Beatles Greatest Hits album. I remember reading through the CD insert and thinking, "Paul McCartney....McCartney...hmmm, that would be a really cool name for a little girl. If I ever have a little girl, that is what I am going to name her."
There was something about the sound of it that I just loved.
I remember telling the name to my mom to see what she thought and she thought that it was beautiful.

Eleven years later and I was still hooked on it.
When Ben and I were dating we would always fantasize about our future little family and often I would randomly throw out possible kiddo names. Of course, the first name I told him was McCartney and guess what. He loved it! (Phew, coulda been a deal breaker...jk!)
To make it even more set in the stars, through a bit of research I found out that in Irish (which is Ben and I are) it means "Bear" which is Ben's nickname.
A surefire sign that it was meant to be?
I think so!
Plus, it was everything we wanted in a name.
Strong, yet sweet.
As for her middle name, it is Jo, which is of course after my middle name. I was named after my aunt, Marilyn Jo, so it just felt right to carry it on. Plus, we think it just sounds so stinkin' cute. However, she won't go by McCartney Jo (unless she wants to). "Hi, we're Kelly Jo and McCartney Jo." That just makes us sound too much like a Branson Family Band.
Anyway, so there you have it. The story on how we named our sweet little bundle of joy.
What about you? How did you decide what to name your kiddos? I love hearing how people come up with names so please share!
Over and Out,
Kelly Jo

I love her name enough that if we had another girl I might just steal it! LOVE it! And perfect for such a beautiful, sweet little girl! I love the meaning and story behind it too. So perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteLove name stories, thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy kids: Elisabeth ~ similar to your story, a name I loved since I was a teenager though I always thought we would use the nickname Beth ~ and in reality we call her Lisbeth. The 's' spelling is the more common one used in Belgium where my mom is from. Liam ~ my husband is a junior and didn't want a third, but with his father gone we liked the idea of using the same initials and Liam was our favorite boy's name with L. Finally Caitlin is my husband's favorite girl's name, and since we used my favorite for our first this time it was his choice. All of their middle names are family/saint names.
Hi! I'm a new reader and your blog is so precious! (So is your baby girl! And I'm a pretty good authority on baby girls, since I've had 4:))
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughters name is Jonah (like the biblical character) Bree. People who meet her say it suits he so perfectly and that suddently boys named Jonah seem odd :) It means dove ... I am a Sleepless in Seattle addict and that's where I first decided I loved it (but not realy for a boy. Weird). I felt like she offered me that olive branch of new life, new experience and tangible hope. Her middle name is after my dearest friend. My second daughter was supposed to be Gillian (after the folk singer Gillian Welch) but after 10 weeks in the hospital while pregnant with her and praying to die, she was born and my husband decided we should use Jillian, thinking it sounded a tad more feminine and matched her sister. Now it's extremely popular and I sometimes wish we had just stuck with the original. It means sweetheart though, and I adore that. My third baby girl was never born. The Lord told me she was a she and showed me the name Jori. I looked it up, paired with the middle name we had chosen (Cecile) and it meant pure and unknown beauty. Wow. My last baby girl is named Ellis Louise. She and I almost died from blood loss during her fast labor ... her name, meaning The Lord is God, seemed even more perfect when He showed me His presence through each moment that brought her safely to our arms. Sorry this is so long!! Enjoy that baby girl! As I'm sure you know, it goes by so very quickly - without a care for our wants or feelings. She is so beautiful! PS- I'm Irish too ;)
I loooooove that she's named after Paul McCartney! We too are huge Beatles fans and considered names Lennon and Lucy (Lucy in the sky) but we thought Lucy was a bit overdone. Oh yeah, and Eleanor (Eleanor Rigby). But none felt right So we went with Norah...from Norah Jones. We really like musicians can't ya tell lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is so great, I love her name, I love her face. So glad she's not part of the family band, that would just be a bit... odd...
ReplyDeleteOh how cool. It's a very nice name and apparently unique because I haven't heard of anyone named McCartney either.
ReplyDeleteI often wonder if I'll stick with the baby names that I think of now. I'm all over the place now. But I have a few that I really like and am trying to hold on to for the future.
Look forward to reading more of your posts with Medical Mondays!
We have a history of carrying on the "Jo" as a middle name too! My mother and I are both Jo's, and my next daughter will be as well. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!
