Joining up once again for another delightful round of 7 Quick Takes...
I'll be the first to admit that I was pinning nursery ideas looong before I was ever pregnant (don't we all?). I thought that I knew exactly what I wanted when the time would come to transform our spare room. One thing I knew for sure: if we ever had a little girl her room would not be pink and girly.
Welp, come August we found out that we are having a little misses and much to my surprise, I couldn't resist anything with pink or frills.
So, for the past five months I have been busy preparing our little gal's room which is the girliest of girly spaces and I absolutely love it.
I was inspired by some nursery artwork that I found and fell in love with on Etsy. Despite not liking birds in real life (in fact, I'm pretty terrified of them), I just loved how sweet and whimsical they were in these pieces. So, a theme was born of owls, birds, and forest whimsy.
So, now, without further ado, here's my 7 Quick Nursery Takes.
1. The Crib

2. The Dresser and Gallery Wall
The second that I came across this pin I knew that I wanted something similar. As I mentioned above, I had already found a few perfect pieces of artwork to get it started. Once we purchased those, I began collecting other things like the cross and the monogram. Once I had all of the artwork, I laid out an arrangement on the floor, stared at it and adjusted it for a few weeks (yes, I'm crazy), and then I used this technique (only with leftover Christmas wrapping paper) to hang everything on the wall. I only had to redo one nail, so I was pretty darn psyched!

Ben and my birthdays are one month apart, so around late July my parents said that they would like to purchase the furniture for our nursery as a gift to both of us. So, one weekend when I was visiting Kansas City my mom and I headed out to Babies'R'Us to find the perfect dresser and crib set.
On the drive there we had a conversation that went a little something like this:
Mom: What about blonde wood?
Me: Oh no, I don't like blonde furniture. It's going to be white or dark wood. Definitely not blonde.
Of course, what happens?
We walk in and the first crib to catch our eye that we both immediately fall in love with...natural blonde wood.

That woman. I swear she's psychic sometimes.
Anyway, I'm just in love with it. Good call, mama!

I just think it's so sweet and I love the pop of color that it brings to the walls!

3. The Changing Station

When it comes to countertops and dressers, I like everything to have a place. I also like "stuff" to be concealed, but accessible. When I scored the pink little basket for $5 at JoAnn's I wasn't quite sure exactly I was going to do with it, but was so excited when I found that it held our little gal's wipes, diaper cream, and lotion perfectly!
Next to the changing station is also another little place of organization bliss.

This little area is right in the middle of her changing pad and glider. The basket holds her rattles and teethers, while the yellow pail holds her "beauty products" (i.e. clippers, brush, nasal aspirator, etc.).
4. The Rocking Glider
This was my birthday gift from Ben's parents (Talk about a baby birthday, right?). I took a risk and picked this one out without actually giving it a test drive. Thank goodness for trusty reviewers!
It's soo comfy! I can't wait to rock our little gal in it and read her stories. So many memories are going to be made right there...I just know it!

So, one of the things that I have had to be the most careful with is getting carried away with the owl/bird theme. As you may have noticed, there are adorable little owls everywhere you go! And it seemed like once we set our hearts on that theme that they showed up even more. As tempting as it was to purchase each and every one of them, I had this deep fear that when you walked into her nursery it would just scream "HOOOOOT!" Plus, Ben feared that at night it would just be a bunch of glowing eyes, so we've made sure to limit ourselves to only a few owls. We've tried to complete the theme by adding things like the little birdhouses that I painted and and some subtle bird decor like the little coatrack.
6. Drawer Organization

Have I mentioned that I am an organization junkie? Like, a little OCD. Okay, a lot OCD when it comes to things having a place and a space. So, I knew that I wanted her dresser drawers to be as organized as possible. Some drawer dividers and little baskets made that easy-peasy. I'm sure that after she's been home for a week I'll switch some stuff up a bit, but for now I think we're off to a good start. I plan to do a post on nursery organization in the future, so stay tuned!

7. A Work In Progress
There is still lots to do like finish sewing the ruffled crib skirt (it's alllmost done), cover the ottoman we have, make or purchase a bookshelf, put a storage system in her closet, and add some more artwork next to the window. But for now it is ready to welcome her home!

I still can't believe that she'll be here in no time!
C'mon little gal - we're ready to bring you home sweet home!
Have a great weekend everyone!
