Is it really Friday already? Man this week flew by!
Anyway, in usual TGIF fashion I'm linking up for some 7 Quick Takes. Thanks to Hallie for hosting them today for Jen who was admitted to the hospital earlier this week. Before you continue reading, please be sure to say a prayer for her quick recovery.
1. Most important update: no baby yet. I thought I had a contraction when I was sitting in the parking lot of Target today enjoying the Jr. Deluxe Cheeseburger that I had picked up from Sonic. It was painful enough to make me wince, but that was the extent of it. Just gas? Mayyyybe. Still, what a tease!
2. Remember when I mentioned how I was trying to develop a routine? Well, I've been sticking to it and it's working! Our house is pretty much always clean to the point where if someone dropped by I wouldn't make them wait outside in the cold for 5 minutes while I desperately tried to make our kitchen look presentable. I will say though, at first I thought the idea of a load of laundry every day seemed absurd. How could we be that dirty? But we actually somehow manage to have at least a load between towels, bedding, clothes, and Ben's scrubs. I even washed some of Trudy's toys the other day (nesting much? yeah, I know).
3. Speaking of the Trudesters, I think I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but for Christmas my parents got her a dog bed. Let's just say that the transition is going great....
Just kidding, it's not thaaaat bad. We actually usually invite her up to snuggle with us at night because she's the most spoiled pooch in the world and she keeps my feet warm, but if she decides to sprawl and take over the entire bed then she gets the boot and willingly hops down to her little floor pillow. Plus it's where she likes to nap during the day (complete with her scrub shrine to her daddy) so I'm going to go ahead and call it a success...
4. This is really pre-2013, but I "accidentally" got bangs the other day. I was going for this look, but it resulted in me having the just-one-eye-Jessica-Rabbit look. While I am a fan of my right eye, it didn't seem very practical. The stylist must have felt the same and asked me if they were too much. I kindly told her that I thought I'd be needing my other eye with the baby, so she said she'd "lighten them up" aka chop chop chop until I had full-fledged bangs.
I've gone through the series of emotions one does when getting a haircut they didn't anticipate...denial, anger, acceptance, and borderline growing to like it. However, I don't think I'll be doing a repeat cut - they're just too much of a pain.
5. On Sunday, we took down all of our Christmas decorations. Normally I would leave them up until mid to late January, but with our little gal coming any day now, we figured it was best to get it done. I always hate those first few days after you take down the Christmas decor...the house just seems so bare. Thankfully, a sleep'n'play replaced the area where the tree was, so it is helping to ease my post-holiday heartache.
6. Lately I've been spending my evenings relaxing, drinking some hot apple cider, and reading my baby books.
I've read the first two and I highly recommend them. Especially the Heading Home with Your Newborn - it's very straightforward with useful knowledge and no fluff.
I'm about to start on Baby Wise which I'm pretty pumped about because I've heard several success stories from mom's who followed the feeding/sleep schedule. After we give it a try I'll letcha know how it goes.
Know of any other good ones? Please share!

7. I'm a little bit concerned about how much this baby is going to be videoed and photographed. I'm not sure if I have enough storage space. After all, my phone gets filled with several videos like this already each day.
How's it going to handle fifty more?
Welp, that's all I've got for today!
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
Over and Out,
Kelly Jo
I just found your blog on the QT blog hop!
ReplyDeleteSince I'm new, I don't know if you have heard of or read 'Healthy sleep habits happy child'. Seriously really book to add to a collection
I second this book for sure!!
DeletePlease PLEASE read Dr. Karp's "Happiest Baby on the Block" if you haven't! I am a little obsessed with him and looking back his book was pretty much the only one I ended up remembering and using when I was deliriously sleep deprived. ;-) I also liked Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child (like the previous poster recommended) but it applied better for me when Landon was older, say 4+ months. I personally found Baby Wise to be too rigid for me. I ended up kind of following more of the attachment parenting methods because I was too tired (again with the tired thing :) to try to set a schedule and following the baby's cues seemed to work better and I was able to relax a little. Hey, I don't always eat every three hours to the dot so I figured the baby didn't have to either. But you'll figure out what works for y'all and be awesome and you'll love it!! :)) Dr. Karp is magical and I think Robyn used him too because we've had this conversation together before :) {BTW, I finally blogged about your baby shower yesterday - I am SO SORRY it took me so long! It was fun to look back at the pictures! :)}
ReplyDeleteTrudy pictures and videos make me so happy!!! I KNOW baby pictures and videos will too!! I need to be more like you and establish a cleaning routine. I plan on developing one this weekend and implementing it next week when I go back to work. That's when most of my goal starting is happening since I'm still on break. I'm trying to let myself just soak in being on break and not having many things to do right now :) You inspire me!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Trudy pictures!! So cute. Especially since she sleeps with Ben's scrubs. She loves her daddy!! We got Taylor a dog beg (instead of the old comforter on the floor she's had for the last 4 years) and she LOVES it. If I even step on it, she gives me a look like, "HEY! That's MY bed!" SOR-RY!!
ReplyDeleteI kept thinking about you this weekend, wondering if there was any baby action! I'll just keep checking your blog like a stalker for updates. :)
Hooray for the routine! I'm glad it has been working for you. I have been trying to stay up on the laundry. So far, it is washed, but still not folded and put away. Baby steps I guess.
Just found your blog and can't wait to follow along! Your dog is TOO cute and congrats on your upcoming new addition! My husband is a PGY5 Ortho resident and I'm finishing up grad school. Would love to have you stop by at www.thewittylife.blogspot.com
